Scheherazade

Album by Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky‐Korsakov & London Philharmonic Orchestra & José Serebrier

Scheherazade is an orchestral suite by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, composed in 1888. The work draws on Orientalist narrative sources and is characterised by colourful orchestration, prominent violin writing and recurring instrumental motifs that evoke characters and scenes, and it played an important role in Rimsky-Korsakov's development as an orchestrator and in the expansion of Russian orchestral repertoire in the late 19th century.
