Symphony No. 4
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Chicago Symphony Orchestra & André Previn
Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, completed in 1936. The work is expansive and orchestral in scope, combining late-Romantic density with modernist dissonance, complex rhythms and sudden contrasts, and its withdrawal after completion in the 1930s followed by a public premiere decades later marks it as an experimental and important moment in Shostakovich's early career.
