Messiah (Highlights)
Album by George Frideric Handel & Kathleen Battle & Florence Quivar & John Aler & Samuel Ramey & Toronto Mendelssohn Choir & Toronto Symphony Orchestra & Sir Andrew Davis
Messiah (Highlights) is a highlights compilation of the oratorio Messiah by George Frideric Handel, originally composed in 1741. The selection condenses the Baroque oratorio’s choral and solo writing into a shorter form, emphasising Handel’s use of contrapuntal choruses, dramatic solo writing and orchestral accompaniment, and situates the work as a key piece in Handel’s output and in Western choral tradition.
