Symphony no. 4
Album by Johannes Brahms & Sergiu Celibidache
Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Johannes Brahms, completed and premiered in 1885. A late-Romantic orchestral work characterised by dense contrapuntal textures, expansive lyrical writing and an austere harmonic language, its concluding movement employs a passacaglia-like variation structure and the work represents the culmination of Brahms's symphonic output, marking a mature, more introspective phase in his career.
