Requiem

Album by Hector Berlioz & Utah Symphony & Maurice Abravanel

Requiem (Grande Messe des morts) is a large-scale choral and orchestral work by French composer Hector Berlioz, composed and first performed in 1837. Notable for its massive forces and innovative orchestration, including extensive brass, percussion and multiple choirs, it expanded the scale and expressive possibilities of nineteenth-century sacred music and occupies a central place in Berlioz's output and the Romantic symphonic-choral tradition.
