Funeral Sentences
Album by Henry Purcell & Collegium Vocale Gent & Philippe Herreweghe
Funeral Sentences is a set of choral works by English Baroque composer Henry Purcell, composed in 1695. They are settings of the Anglican burial sentences in Purcell's late Baroque style, characterised by sombre choral textures, contrapuntal writing and expressive word-setting, and they form part of his late sacred output associated with funerary rites.
