Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1888. The work combines late-Romantic orchestration with elements drawn from folk tunes and song cycles, and it represents an early, formative statement in Mahler's symphonic output that foreshadows his later expansive orchestral writing.
