Messiah is an oratorio by the Baroque composer George Frideric Handel, first performed in 1742. Scored for choir, soloists and orchestra, it synthesises Biblical texts into a sequence of choral and solo movements in the Baroque style and is part of Handel's later output, contributing to the development of the English oratorio tradition.
