Preludes are sets of solo piano pieces by Sergei Rachmaninoff, composed between 1892 and 1910. They exemplify late-Romantic Russian piano writing, combining sweeping lyrical melodies, dense harmonies and virtuosic passagework, and mark the consolidation of Rachmaninoff's mature compositional voice within the piano repertoire.
