Die Moldau
Album by Bedřich Smetana & Berliner Symphoniker & Carl-August Bünte
Die Moldau is a symphonic poem by Czech composer Bedřich Smetana, composed in 1874 as the second symphonic poem of his cycle Má vlast. The work uses orchestral tone-painting to evoke the course of the Vltava river, with flowing string figures, prominent woodwind motifs and dynamic contrasts, and it occupies an important place in Smetana's late output and in the development of Czech nationalist music in the late nineteenth century.
