War and Peace is an opera by Sergei Prokofiev, first staged in 1946. The work combines expansive orchestral and choral writing with lyrical vocal writing, blending Russian romantic traditions and Prokofiev's modernist idiom, and represents his large-scale operatic treatment of Tolstoy's novel within his mid-20th-century output.
