The Bolt is a satirical opera by Dmitri Shostakovich, first performed in 1931. The work combines sharp orchestral textures, acerbic rhythmic motifs and theatrical satire, occupying an experimental early place in Shostakovich's operatic output as he explored musical theatre and social commentary before his later large-scale dramas.
