Messiah is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1741 and first performed in 1742. The work is scored for chorus, soloists and orchestra in the Baroque style, with choruses and arias that alternate to set biblical texts, and it is one of Handel's large-scale vocal works from his period in Britain.
