Violin Concerto

The Violin Concerto, a staple of classical music since the 18th century, began as a way to show off one’s violin skills whilst making everyone else in the orchestra look somewhat incompetent. Characterised by a solo violin battling it out against a full symphony orchestra, it often sounds like a dramatic conversation, where the violin invariably gets the last word. Ironically, even the most uncertain of violinists can still manage to command the stage with an air of authority, leaving the audience to wonder if they actually understood any of it or simply enjoyed the spectacle.
