Vaporwave

Vaporwave emerged in the early 2010s, chiefly from the digital underground, where the internet became the world's most avant-garde melting pot for nostalgia and irony. It is characterised by quirky samples from 80s and 90s pop culture, slowed-down tracks, and a delightfully glitchy aesthetic that makes you question whether you're listening or time-travelling. The genre's playful attack on consumerism is so tongue-in-cheek that it could almost be served with a side of chips, if only you could find a retro diner that plays it on repeat.
