Two Tone
Two-tone emerged in late 1970s Britain, a delightful fusion of ska and punk invented to bring people together just as the country was threatening to fall apart at the seams. It's characterised by upbeat rhythms, choppy guitars, and brass sections, making it the perfect soundtrack for dancing whilst simultaneously frowning about the state of the world. With its colourful imagery and diverse bands, the genre famously had a knack for turning serious socio-political commentary into toe-tapping anthems, showing that discontent could indeed be jolly.
