Street Rap
Street Rap emerged in the late 1980s in urban areas of the UK, where artists began recounting tales from their lives, often involving a fair amount of cheeky bravado and streetwise wisdom. Characterised by gritty beats and sharp, often witty lyricism, it’s a genre that sounds like someone having a good old natter down the pub but with a bit more rhythm and a fair bit less gin. It has sparked a cultural movement that not only gives voice to the underrepresented but also ensures the word 'peng' is now a standard in the lexicon, much to the delight and confusion of the rest of us.
