Southern Gothic

Southern Gothic music emerged in the deep, creaky heart of the American South, combining elements of folk, country, and blues with a healthy dose of eerie storytelling, reminiscent of a Gothic novel gone slightly awry. It's characterised by haunting melodies, unsettling lyrics about death, decay, and the odd family secret, all accompanied by instruments that sound as if they've just walked out of a dusty attic. Considered a bit of a dark cousin to Americana, it invites you to sip sweet tea on the porch whilst contemplating life's many, many shadows.
