Sadcore
Sadcore emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s, primarily in the UK, as a melancholic response to the more upbeat pop of the time; it turns out that wallowing can become a musical genre too. Characterised by slow tempos, introspective lyrics, and vocals that sound like the singer just remembered they've forgotten to feed their cat, it’s essentially music for rainy days or break-ups that go just a bit too well. Fans might argue that it’s therapy without the bills, but let's be honest, nothing like a good dose of existential dread paired with catchy melodies for a Saturday night in.
