Romantic Classical

Romantic Classical music emerged in the late 18th to mid-19th century, primarily in Europe, when composers decided that being subtle and restrained was so last century; instead, they embraced emotion and self-expression, much to the delight of those who enjoy an over-the-top serenade. Characterised by lush harmonies, grand orchestral sweeps, and the occasional heart-wrenching solo, it’s the sort of music that makes you feel your feelings, ideally whilst in a dramatic, candle-lit setting. Fun fact: this genre practically invented the concept of the tortured artist, ensuring that every composer could angst about their misunderstood genius whilst fending off dinner invitations.
