Renaissance Music

Renaissance music flourished in Europe between the 15th and 16th centuries, when composers decided that the church had hogged the limelight long enough and began turning their attention to secular tunes and harmonies. Characterised by intricate polyphony and a hefty dose of vocal arrangements, it sounds like a bunch of skilled musicians having a very civilised (and slightly over-enthusiastic) conversation with each other, often while wearing very elaborate hats. It paved the way for later musical revolutions, proving that even in the world of music, a little bit of experimentation can lead to some rather dazzling results.
