Progressive Rap

Progressive Rap emerged in the late 1980s as a cheeky fusion of hip hop's lyrical prowess and the adventurous spirit of progressive rock, proving that rapping about your feelings can be just as complex as your Aunt Mabel's knitting patterns. It often features intricate rhythms and unconventional song structures, which might leave the uninitiated scratching their heads or suddenly very interested in obscure jazz records. The genre challenges traditional rap conventions whilst being the musical equivalent of bringing a fancy cheese platter to a BBQ—unexpected but somehow delightfully fitting.
