Progressive Bluegrass

Progressive Bluegrass emerged in the late 1960s in the good ol' USA, as musicians decided that traditional bluegrass could use a splash of jazz, rock, and even a bit of classical flair, proving that banjos can be quite sophisticated when they want to be. It features more complex chord changes and often incorporates improvisation, which is a fancy way of saying they play what they feel and hope it sounds splendid; you might catch a fiddler doing a solo that defies both gravity and sanity. The genre cleverly appeals to fans who think folk music is fine but could use a bit of a wild card every now and then, leaving purists clutching their straw hats in bemusement.
