North African

North African music originated in the maghreb region, drawing on a plethora of influences from Arabic, Berber, and, for good measure, a bit of sub-Saharan rhythm, all whilst pondering the mysteries of life and the best couscous recipe. Characterised by catchy melodies, intricate rhythms, and instruments like the oud and guembri, it sounds like a joyful gathering of friends trying to decide whether to dance or simply appreciate the food spread. With cultural roots that go back centuries, it's no wonder that this music makes an appearance at every wedding, festival, and family gathering, proving that you can always blame the music when you’re caught dancing like no one’s watching.
