Neurofunk

Neurofunk sprouted in the late 1990s, mostly in the UK, as a particularly cerebral offshoot of drum and bass that could make your brain ponder the mysteries of the universe whilst your feet tried to keep up. Characterised by complex basslines and dark, mechanical sounds, it could easily be mistaken for a soundtrack to an existential crisis in a futuristic dystopia—but with a beat you can dance to. Fans enjoy the genre as a sort of musical rollercoaster, where the twists and turns leave you wondering if you've experienced enlightenment or just a very imaginative night out.
