Nationalist

Nationalist music emerged in the 19th century as a rather spirited attempt to channel national pride through song, particularly in Europe where many were convinced that the world would notice their fine local tunes over the sound of trumpets and cannons. Often featuring folk melodies and instruments, it sounds like a hearty singalong where one might just as easily shed a tear for lost homelands as dance a jig at a village fête. It's the perfect soundtrack for those moments when you want to feel proud of your roots, though it does occasionally have the side effect of making you want to argue about who makes the best sausage roll.
