Musical Theater

Musical theatre music emerged in the early 20th century, combining dialogue, song, and dance into a delightful mishmash of storytelling, liberation by show tunes, and a tad bit of melodrama; quite frankly, it took a while for the world to forgive operas for being so serious. Characterised by big, belting choruses and a tendency to explain life’s ups and downs through catchy melodies, it’s like everyone forgot to pay the bills and just decided to sing instead. This genre has given us the joy of awkwardly singing along in the shower whilst missing the high notes, aiming to impress your cat who, frankly, is just not that interested.
