Microtonal

Microtonal music emerged in the 20th century as a cheeky attempt to explore pitches that exist in between the traditional notes we know and love—yes, the ones you might accidentally hit when tuning a guitar. It often sounds like a delightful collision of two cats having an argument whilst a confused piano tries to mediate, resulting in melodies that might leave you wondering if your ears are simply misbehaving. Pioneered by artists who clearly had too much time on their hands and not enough standard tuning systems, microtonal music enjoys a cult following, mostly amongst those who truly believe there's more to life than just twelve notes.
