Microhouse
Microhouse emerged in the late 1990s in Germany, where DJs decided that house music could benefit from a bit of a magnifying glass and a little less brawn. It's characterised by minimalistic beats and whimsy, often sounding as if a digital gremlin is tinkering with the knobs while a soothing house cat purrs in the background. That whimsical touch has led to a cult following, as fans groove to tracks that are more about subtlety and less about shouting the beat at you like a bouncer on a Saturday night.
