Meditative

Meditative music began to emerge in the 1960s, influenced by Eastern spiritual practices and the growing hippie movement that realised perhaps sitting still was better than chasing after a bus. It typically features gentle melodies, soft drones, and sometimes the odd chime or bell, as if someone asked a calming soundtrack to please whisper sweet nothings in your ear. The genre has become a staple for yoga classes, relaxation lounges, and that rather intense friend who insists on enlightening everyone through sound baths.
