K Pop
K-pop, short for Korean pop music, exploded from South Korea in the early 1990s, initially as a shamelessly catchy mix of Western pop and traditional Korean sounds, proving that a good choreography can distract from any questionable lyrical choices. Characterised by vibrant visuals, slick production, and enough synchronised dancing to put a military parade to shame, it often sounds like an audio sugar rush, with melodies sticking in your head like gum on a shoe. These days, K-pop's global impact means that there's probably a fan base in your neighbourhood, complete with perfectly coordinated outfits and an alarming number of light sticks.
