Juju

Juju music originated in Nigeria in the late 1920s as a vibrant fusion of traditional African rhythms and Western instruments, proving that even in the face of colonialism, creativity knows no bounds. Often featuring intricate guitar riffs, lively percussion, and call-and-response vocals, it sounds like everyone is having an absolute hoot whilst dancing, with a soundtrack that's as upbeat as a kid in a sweet shop. Interestingly, its popularity spread beyond Nigeria, transforming into something of a cultural ambassador, where even the sceptics found themselves tapping their toes and wondering what just happened.
