Italo Disco
Italo Disco emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s in Italy, where it was a delightful concoction of synthesizers, catchy melodies, and more sparkling neon lights than a 1980s arcade. Characterised by its bouncy beats and often somewhat bemusingly sincere lyrics, it sounds as if someone decided to take disco to an amusement park and let it ride the dodgems unaccompanied. Despite its initial niche appeal, the genre has endured, popping up occasionally in retro playlists as a cheeky reminder that even the most serious of dance floors can do with a bit of campy Italian flair now and then.
