Industrial Hip Hop
Industrial Hip Hop emerged in the late 1980s, where the abrasive sounds of industrial music collided with the rhythmic poetry of hip hop; think of it as a musical version of banging a typewriter in a factory while trying to rhyme. It's characterised by heavy beats, gritty samples, and vocals that often sound like they’ve just survived a day at the coal mine, giving you that lovely sense of dystopia without the need for a hard hat. Fans might argue it's a clever reflection on society, while others might say it's just an excuse to sound angry whilst bobbing one’s head in a pretty fun way.
