Future Jazz
Future Jazz emerged in the 1990s, primarily in the UK and Europe, as a cheeky blending of jazz improvisation and electronic music; think of it as jazz donning a pair of trainers for a night out. Characterised by its use of cool beats, synths, and elements of IDM, it offers the seductive possibility that a saxophone solo can play nicely with a glitchy computer sound, much to the delight of fans who enjoy sipping cocktails in dimly lit bars. Some might say it’s an ideal soundtrack for pretending to be profound whilst nursing a pint and contemplating the meaning of life, or just the next round.
