Funk Jazz

Funk jazz emerged in the late 1960s when jazz musicians decided to add a bit of a groove to their improvisation, rather like putting a cheeky twist on a classic recipe. With infectious rhythms, tight basslines, and the sort of syncopation that could make anyone tap their feet, it sounds like jazz swaggering confidently into a nightclub whilst declaring it’s too cool for school. Not surprisingly, this genre has influenced everything from hip hop to disco, showing that a good riff can make even the stuffiest of jazz heads want to dance.
