Feminist Punk
Feminist punk emerged in the late 1970s, predominantly in the UK and the US, when women decided to tell the world to stop being so terribly dull and decidedly patriarchal. It's a raucous blend of furious guitars and straightforward lyrics that often chew up societal norms and spit them out with a cheeky grin; think of it as shouting at the world whilst sporting a leather jacket and unapologetically bright hair. This genre didn't just create music, it launched a whole movement, encouraging individuals to swap polite agreement for loud dissent and, surprisingly, quite a bit of fun.
