Experimental Folk

Experimental Folk emerged in the 1960s, largely birthed by those who thought traditional folk was just a wee bit too straightforward, often blending acoustic instruments with the type of strange sounds you might make when you've had one too many herbal teas. It tends to sound like a delightful romp through a dreamscape, where the very normal meets the delightfully bizarre, often involving unconventional song structures and, dare I say, some rather avant-garde antics. Fans might tell you it challenges the spirit of the genre, while the rest of us just try to figure out if that was a banjo or a cat being strangled.
