Experimental Classical
Experimental Classical music emerged in the mid-20th century, as a delightful rebellion against convention, proving that you can indeed compose a symphony with a little less 'Mozart' and a lot more 'what on earth was that?' It often sounds like a mad scientist’s laboratory, with unpredictable dissonance, unconventional instruments, and a considerable amount of silence that would make even a librarian raise an eyebrow. It has inspired countless modern composers to think outside the box, or perhaps to just throw the box out entirely and see if it makes a sound when it lands.
