Early Music
Early Music is the term given to music from the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, roughly spanning from the 9th to the 18th centuries, when musicians were delightfully experimental and still trying to figure out why the organ was making such strange noises. Characterised by its use of period instruments and a decidedly less frantic tempo than today's pop hits, it often sounds like a grand historical re-enactment with slightly dodgy choreography. Fun fact: enthusiasts will passionately argue that the only way to truly appreciate it is whilst sporting a doublet and quill pen, though I suspect that's just an excuse to wear fancy tights.
