Do Wop
Do-Wop emerged in 1950s America, particularly amongst street corner harmony groups who realised that singing in tight vocal harmony was far more appealing than any attempt at football. This genre is characterised by its rich vocal harmonies, simple beats, and love-struck lyrics, often delivered with impressive falsetto highs and a fair dose of melodrama. At its peak, do-wop not only created a nostalgic soundtrack for burgeoning teenage romance but also established the classic vocal group format that still has a soft spot in the hearts of many today.
