Danzon

Danzón originated in the 19th century in Cuba, where it waltzed its way into the hearts of locals, swiftly becoming a favourite pastime for the aristocracy; think ballroom elegance mixed with a cheeky hint of flirtation. Characterised by its syncopated rhythms and smooth melodies, it often sounds like a romantic conversation between brass instruments and woodwinds, occasionally vying for attention in an endearingly polite manner. It's no wonder that this genre has influenced everything from salsa to the cha-cha, proving that when it comes to dancing, Cubans do know how to take a good tune and make it fabulously lively.
