Contemporary Christian Music, or CCM if you're feeling snazzy, really took off in the 1960s and 70s, when folks decided that hymns could sound a bit less like they were written in the Middle Ages and a tad more like the chart-toppers. Think upbeat melodies, catchy choruses, and lyrics that would make your nan faint from joy, all designed to spread the message of faith whilst you tap your foot. It's basically what happens when you mix a church service with a pop concert, resulting in songs that could either inspire you or have you reaching for earplugs, depending on your taste in divine melodies.
