Concert
Concert music, also known as classical music, took its grand bow in the courts and concert halls of Europe, particularly from the late 18th century onwards, when composers decided the best way to assert their brilliance was to write symphonies longer than most people's attention spans. Characteristically intricate, it features multiple movements, orchestras that seem to double as community service projects for bored string players, and a penchant for dramatic flourishes that could easily provoke an eye roll from any modern ear. Fun fact: whilst a concerto might make you feel cultured, there's a good chance the composer just needed to impress a member of the aristocracy to get a good seat at dinner.
