Conceptual Art

Conceptual Art music emerged in the 1960s, primarily from avant-garde composers who thought that the ideas behind the music were far more important than the actual sounds, which was a bit like saying the ingredients are more crucial than the cake. It often features spoken word, chance operations, and a general disregard for traditional musical structure, resulting in a sound that can range from delightfully perplexing to utterly confounding, depending on your tolerance for artistic whimsy. The genre invites listeners to ponder deep philosophical questions, like 'What on earth am I listening to?' and 'Is this really music or just someone leaving a tape recorder on?'
