Chicago Blues

Chicago Blues arose in the 1940s, when Southern migrants realised they could enhance the old Delta blues with electrified instruments and an inexplicable preference for smoke-filled bars. The sound is largely characterised by gritty vocals and expressive guitar solos, which often manage to convey deep sorrow whilst simultaneously encouraging you to have a jolly good time. This genre not only shaped the development of rock music but also provided an excellent excuse for many to indulge in late-night jam sessions and questionable life decisions.
