Chamber Folk

Chamber Folk emerged in the late 20th century, particularly in the UK, when folk musicians decided that a bit of classical instrumentation might elevate their tunes from the local pub to the concert hall, or at least to a slightly fancier pub. It often features delicate vocals accompanied by strings and woodwinds, creating a sound that suggests a romantic picnic in a meadow, whilst actually reflecting a modern sensitivity to both sound and performance. Fans will tell you it has all the earthiness of folk, but with that little bit of posh polish to keep the brollies handy for a potential rain shower of melancholy.
