Camp

Camp music originated in the mid-20th century, often attributed to circles of artists and performers who loved to be ironically excessive whilst embracing the ridiculous. It's characterised by a playful blend of melodrama and pastiche, where the earnest efforts to evoke deep emotion often come across as gloriously over-the-top, much like a Shakespearean tragedy performed by a troupe of particularly flamboyant penguins. This genre has been a touchstone for countless cultural movements, reminding us that sometimes the highest form of art is simply not taking oneself too seriously.
