Broadway
Broadway music, or musical theatre, originated in the early 20th century in the United States, cosy-ing up to the Great White Way of New York City; it’s essentially a dramatic spectacle with songs, dances, and enough melodrama to make soap operas look like a documentary. With elaborate productions and catchy tunes, it’s like an explosion of colour and whimsy, where tragic tales are often accompanied by tap-dancing ensemble members just eager for applause. It has a cultural impact strong enough to have turned waiting for the bus into yearning for a soft-shoe number; if only we could get the pigeons to join in.
