Big Beat
Big Beat emerged in the 1990s amidst the rave culture of the UK, when DJs realised slapping together techno, hip hop, and a bit of funk was an excellent excuse to make everyone dance while wearing ridiculous outfits. Characterised by heavy breakbeats and catchy samples, it sounds like a party where the ’90s refuse to leave and somehow convince you it’s a good thing. It gave birth to a scene so exhilarating that even the most introverted people were seen nodding their heads with a cheeky grin, proving that rhythm truly is contagious.
